The Valley’s newest loyalty program receives a special day to celebrate all things local

PHOENIX, AZ (August 1, 2019) — The month of August brings a new celebration to the Valley – 850zip Day! Mayor Kate Gallego of Phoenix, Arizona recently proclaimed August 5th as “850zip Day,” to celebrate a program designed to reward community members for supporting local businesses. Located at First Studio in downtown Phoenix, the 850zip loyalty program is focused on building local connections to bring communities together and help foster the growth of the city.

“I am proud to proclaim August 5, 2019 as 850zip Day in the City of Phoenix,” said Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego. “As an initiative program, 850zip truly inspires people to live, work, shop, dine and volunteer in their local neighborhoods. As residents do so, people get connected, locally-owned businesses grow and Phoenix gets stronger.”

850zip rewards community members for supporting independently-owned businesses located in the “850” zip codes, helping promote those businesses and attract more customers. Since 2016, 850zip has provided local initiatives to the downtown community through loyalty rewards and unique volunteer opportunities in their neighborhoods. Through businesses sharing opportunities together, funds and volunteer hours are reinvested into local non-profits such as Keep Phoenix Beautiful, Arizona Animal Welfare, Roosevelt Row CDC, and others, to better serve the Phoenix area. In 2018, 850zip was awarded Best for The World Honoree as a B Corporation for their work.

“We are truly excited to share this day with the Phoenix community,” said Kathey Wagner, founding partner of 850zip. “Our hyper-local loyalty program is making meaningful connections that truly allows our community to thrive. It is such an honor to have this day recognized by Mayor Gallego, who values the growth and success of our local economy.”

With over 125 businesses as members, 850zip is looking to change the way we think about our relationships to our local products and to each other. To celebrate 850zip day on August 5th, Phoenix residents are encouraged to consider buying local when choosing where to purchase their products, whether it is a household item, clothing or a restaurant.

“Each dollar makes a difference,” said Kathey. “By understanding how we are investing our time and resources in our communities, we can better understand how to invest in each other’s lives.”
